A controversial plan to build a new natural gas power plant in Newark is on pause after heavy opposition from community groups and environmental activists. The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission board was scheduled to vote Thursday on approving a contract to begin work on the project, but the vote was postponed at the request of Gov. Phil Murphy.
