This one lady came by and she sounded so serious.
“You didn't shrink a dog, did you?” And my girlfriend and I looked at each other like, What?
Is this... you know this could Maybe this, maybe there's something here.
My mother used to say: “Is that all you can talk about whatever scene was going on, I don't remember the people's name.
I saw the dog.
I used to say that when I first started doing it.
It legitimizes my obsession with them, because this is my job now.
It's an intimacy with each dog.
It's like being able to create this thing that you just love.
One of the first miniatures I made was my little dog, Ted.
It was just this bursting of Ted love that had to come out somehow, and it came out in a miniature.
When I start it, the main goal is that it's exactly what the owner wants.
There's so much personality that needs to go into them.
Once I had a Yorkie on my table, this lady, she just loved it.
She said, “Oh, it looks just like mine.
But my dog only has three legs.” So I amputated that leg and she bought that Yorkie.
Oh, let's just sit here for a minute.
Yeah You've probably heard this, how many tears dogs soak up.
What will they do?
Kiss your chin.
They sense what their owners go through.
Dogs have that connection with us.
You’re alright.
You’re alright.
About 85% of my work is with dog owners that have lost their pet.
You know, a lot of times you want to touch them again.
And it's something they actually can.
And if it's got the real dog fur, they feel they’re really connect The owners started saying, I just feel his soul.
And I think it's just because I want them to be so real.
And I do talk to them.
I think they almost guide the process.
This lady contacted me.
She had been in a coma.
She had brain cancer, and her twin sister gave her Borzoi away.
She came out of the coma, couldn't get her dog back, so she asked me to make her dog Tallin.
Once she got the dog, she was so happy, and she shared with me, “it's going to be buried with me I know myself how hard it is to lose them and how much we want to see them again.
If I can come close to them feeling This is my dog, then I've done what I set out to do.
This is as close as I can get to giving them their dog back.
