In the late 1950s, Shepherd Park residents formed Neighbors, Inc. to promote integration.
Shepherd Park was one of the District's first truly integrated neighborhoods largely because of a group of citizens called Neighbors, Incorporated. In the late 1950s, this group of black and white residents came together to fight unfair housing practices and to promote integration. They are still an active part of Shepherd Park today.
