Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipToday is the 63rd annual Duluth International Regatta.
We have about 400 rowers from all over the region here--including Canada, the Cities, Brainerd Lakes--to race a 2000 meter course here in the bay.
[music] Basically, our boats can hold anywhere from 1 to 8 people.
Some of those boats also have coxswains.
Those are the ones that steer the boat, they give instructions, they inspire all the rowers.
And then we also have sculling.
Sculling is where each rower has two oars.
For that we have singles, we have doubles, we have quads.
So all those events are split up, you know, by sweep rowing and sculling.
[music] Rowing is really interesting as a sport because it's not something that you start out when you're like four or five and you get amazing at through the course of your whole life.
You can start when you're 18 and go to college to row, the next year.
Like you can get that good that quick.
And also we welcome everybody who's just doing it recreationally as well, you know, you don't have to be competitive to row.
It's just a great sport for anyone.
Duluth is a unique place.
We're on Lake Superior.
A lot of people just want to come here, so yeah, we've hosted this for a long time and hope to continue to do that.
