RICARDO: Hi, I'm Ricardo.
I'm a native Washingtonian.
JEN: And I'm Jen.
I've lived in all four quadrants of the district.
RICARDO: We're best friends who wanna show you around.
JEN: Today we'll tour three open houses.
RICARDO: After each one, we'll try to guess the list price without going over.
JEN: And together, we'll find out what it would be like...
BOTH: If you lived here!
(doorbell).
RICARDO: Hey, Jon.
JEN: Hi.
JON: Hey.
Ricardo, Jen, welcome to Frederick.
RICARDO: I am definitely excited because my middle name is Frederick, so I've never been here, but... JON: You belong.
RICARDO: Always had a special place in my heart.
(Jen and Ricardo laugh).
JON: Yeah, absolutely.
The secret is out.
Okay, we are growing by leaps and bounds in Frederick, 7% in the last 12 months.
JEN: Wow.
JON: So what people are finding is, when they move out here, they can get a bigger home, bigger land, and they can spend two-thirds, three-quarters of the money that they would inside the Beltway.
JEN: What's the typical commuter option if I wanted to go to DC for the night?
JON: Well, we have the MARC Train that's nearby, but typically people would drive into DC or Baltimore, which is only 45 minutes away for either city.
RICARDO: So, I love this creek.
How far does this go through town?
JON: So, the creek is actually eight miles long.
It goes through Baker Park and all the way through downtown Frederick.
It was designed in the '70s for flood prevention.
All along the creek, you're gonna find some beautiful artwork as well.
So, I moved up to Frederick in about 2017.
I love the community atmosphere.
One of my favorite ways to give back is around the holiday season, I have dressed up as The Grinch.
I give out terrible gifts to children.
Come back around December, you'll find The Grinch.
JEN: Great.
RICARDO: Don't be surprised to see us.
(laughter).
So, Jon, Frederick is a pretty old town from what I understand.
Can you tell us a little bit about the home inventory?
JON: Yeah, Frederick actually predates the Revolutionary War, so a lot of the buildings in downtown Frederick are gonna be very old.
On the outskirts of downtown, you're gonna find more traditional homes and a lot of townhomes as well.
JEN: I know we have a lot of ground to cover today, so let's go ahead and head out to house number one.
JON: All right, let's go.
JEN: All right.
RICARDO: Let's follow the creek.
JEN: Oh, perfect.
Don't fall in.
(doorbell) JON: Welcome to house number one, in the Willow Bend community.
This is typical of what you'll see in a starter home in Frederick.
JEN: This must be kind of an older community 'cause these trees look very mature.
JON: Willow Bend is a great community here in Frederick.
It was one of the first townhouse communities.
Even though this house was built in the early '80s, everything inside has been redone.
So, it's really ready for the next person to make it their own space.
JEN: All right, well, let's get in so I can win.
Ready?
Let's go.
RICARDO: She's getting ahead of herself, I'm gonna win.
JEN: Oh, wow.
Jon was right.
This is really updated.
RICARDO: It's '80s outside but inside, it's 2024.
JEN: Yeah, yeah, certainly feels brand new, especially with these floors.
RICARDO: They're bright.
They really open the space up.
JEN: I really do like the recessed lighting in here.
You don't have to take up too much space with lamps.
RICARDO: Yeah.
JEN: We have a door right here.
What are you thinking?
Bathroom or closet?
RICARDO: Thinking closet?
JEN: Place your bets, everybody.
RICARDO: And here we go.
JEN: Oh, half bath.
RICARDO: Half bath.
I love a pedestal sink and the classic vibe that it gives.
JEN: Yeah, and I really like it with this light fixture.
Let's hit the kitchen.
RICARDO: Let's hit that kitchen.
JEN: Oh, this is very fresh.
RICARDO: Yeah, it's got an open feel, but I like the separation that you have here.
And oh my gosh, look at the size of this refrigerator.
JEN: Yeah.
With the double freezer, I really love how much space this gives you.
And there's plenty of counter space around the stove.
RICARDO: I might wanna add my own personal touch with some backsplash here.
JEN: And also just protect the wall.
And let's just take a peek at these.
I can totally reach that.
Oh, soft close.
RICARDO: Oh, nice.
JEN: And I really like these fixtures.
RICARDO: Yeah, and I love this separate eating area.
JEN: Yeah.
I think it's time to check out the second level.
RICARDO: Let's get upstairs.
JEN: Okay.
I like the black handrail.
RICARDO: Yeah.
JEN: All right, let's look at this one first.
Nice little bedroom in here.
RICARDO: I love this brand new carpet.
JEN: Yeah.
This is definitely my preference on a cold morning.
RICARDO: Mm-hmm, yeah, I'm right there with you.
JEN: Let's see what's next door.
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: Looks nice and bright over there.
RICARDO: Yeah, you're getting lots of nice light coming in here.
JEN: Yeah.
RICARDO: But I might wanna knock this wall down, though.
You could have one big room.
JEN: I love that idea.
Let's knock this wall down.
RICARDO: Let's do it right now.
JEN: Okay.
RICARDO: No, we'll wait till later.
JEN: All right, all right.
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: Okay, full bath.
This feels 1980.
RICARDO: Yeah, I definitely would update the vanity.
JEN: Yeah.
But it just needs a little love.
RICARDO: Yeah, I think this is the only room that we've seen so far that does need that.
JEN: Yeah.
RICARDO: Yeah.
JEN: Let's see what's next door.
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: Okay.
So, this must be your primary.
RICARDO: Yeah.
Nice and bright.
JEN: Yeah.
RICARDO: You could fit a large bed in here easily.
JEN: Yeah.
And double windows... RICARDO: Mm-hmm.
JEN: Double doors!
RICARDO: Look at the size of that closet.
JEN: I know.
Whoa.
RICARDO: Oh.
JEN: I always hung out in my closet growing up, so this would be somewhere I would definitely go to read a book.
RICARDO: Yeah, I would be really comfortable in this space.
JEN: So, let's go find Jon for the first game of the day.
RICARDO: I'm right behind ya.
JEN: All right.
All right, back in this lovely living room.
JON: Well, welcome back.
What did you think of the starter home?
RICARDO: For a starter home, I thought it had so much potential.
There's still opportunities to add your own stamp.
JON: And make it your own, right?
RICARDO: Yeah.
JON: Yeah.
JEN: Then all of the updates throughout were thoughtful.
The kitchen, beautiful.
And then the appliances all beautiful, top-of-the-line.
JON: And I don't know about you, but I'm a big sucker for, uh, soft-close cabinets.
RICARDO: Oh, we love those.
JEN: Yes.
RICARDO: Yeah.
JON: Yeah.
JEN: For sure.
I'm not trying to get caught snacking in the middle of the night.
JON: And you don't want anyone asking for your snack either, right?
JEN: That's right.
JON: Right.
RICARDO: It's definitely not 1980s in here.
JON: Definitely not the '80s in here, for sure.
JEN: So, is there an HOA with this property?
JON: So, it's $48 a month.
It includes trash removal... JEN: Wow!
JON: Snow removal, and some landscaping.
JEN: Wow, that's definitely the lowest HOA we've come across so far this season, I think.
RICARDO: Mm-hmm.
JON: Well, welcome to Frederick.
JEN: Hey.
(laughter).
RICARDO: Okay, Jon, before we play the game, what are the stats of this property?
JON: So, this home is a three-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath, 1088 square feet, built in 1987, renovated in 2024.
Can you guess the price?
RICARDO: I am going to say 303,000.
JON: Okay.
JEN: All right.
I'm gonna go a little lower, actually.
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: I'm thinking 288,000.
JON: Okay.
The actual list price is... $314,900.
RICARDO: Ooh, yes.
JON: Nice.
RICARDO: That is, that's really specific.
(laughter).
JON: Yes, very specific price, isn't it?
(laughter).
JEN: Well, we were in a good range, I thought.
RICARDO: Yeah, we were really close, yeah, yeah.
JEN: Yeah.
JON: All right, well I'm excited to show you the second property, it has dynamite views, and it has a very, very private lot.
JEN: Ooh.
RICARDO: Oh.
JEN: All right, well I need some redemption, so I'm ready to go.
RICARDO: All right.
BOYCE: Daniel Dulany is, uh, was an Irish immigrant who laid out Frederick in 1745.
And the city of Frederick has pretty much bloomed from that original layout.
Dulany encouraged Germans to settle here because they had a reputation of being hard workers.
But in addition to that, the proprietor of Frederick, Lord Baltimore, issued a proclamation to people in Pennsylvania, and that's what encouraged a big flow of Germans out of Pennsylvania to Maryland.
The Brunner family became part of this great German migration in 1736 and settle on this piece of land.
The Brunners, Joseph, and Cathrina named their farm Schifferstadt in references to the town where they had lived in Germany.
They brought a little sense of the old homeland to them here in Frederick.
They had a son named Elias.
He builds the big stone house that is our museum today.
This is the oldest surviving house in Frederick County.
There are a number of features about this house that are distinctively German.
The edge of the roof kicks up a little bit.
It's something that the Germans like.
And the heating system, which was what we call a five-plate stove.
The way the stove is placed, it's used to heat both of these bedrooms.
And it's energy efficient.
It was calculated back in the day that you could heat a house with this kind of system with a quarter or less the amount of wood that was used in the open English-style fireplace.
Visitors who come to the house can learn about life in Colonial America, the way people lived, what it was like inside their homes, how the homes were built.
I do feel some connection to the German history of Frederick, especially when I'm walking around inside the house.
JIM: There's a lot of German heritage here.
My dad was born in Munich, and his family came over when he was two years old.
We started making beer about 15 years ago.
Our main focus is traditional European-style beers.
We have Oktoberfest and Marzen, a Dunkel Weiss, Hefeweizen, Vienna Lager, and then our biggest-selling beer is the Kolsch.
We are in the Historic District of Frederick, and this is a historic building.
It was built in the late 1800s.
It's also right along Carroll Creek, so we get a lot of people that are just walking along the creek and then they also come in and have a beer.
German culture is definitely very much alive in Frederick.
There are a lot of activities, specifically Oktoberfest in late September and early October, German-style beer, and of course German music.
So there's clearly a big German influence here in Frederick.
And even to this day, there's a lot of German American people that still live here.
(doorbell) JEN: Wow.
JON: What a view, right?
JEN: You were right about the dynamite views.
I can't think of a better word to describe it.
JON: You're actually looking at the entrance to Gambrill State Park.
We're also just minutes from Interstate 70 and only five short miles to downtown Frederick.
JEN: That really is the best of both worlds.
JON: Absolutely.
You feel like your own little retreat here, but you're not far from everything.
RICARDO: Can I just say how much I'm in love with this porch, too?
JEN: Yes.
RICARDO: I mean, we're elevated so you can really take advantage of this amazing view.
JON: And this, all the way down to the road is all the land for you.
It's a little over three and a half acres, which is really rare in Frederick to have a house this close to everything but also a lot that is this big.
JEN: Wow.
RICARDO: Three and a half acres, are you kidding?
JON: You guys have enjoyed the outside, are you ready to take a look inside?
RICARDO: Absolutely.
JEN: Yeah.
JON: All right, enjoy.
JEN: All right.
JON: All right.
JEN: See you in a bit.
Ooh, wow.
RICARDO: This is a really large entryway.
JEN: It's wide.
RICARDO: Yeah.
You've got your traditional floor plan here, got separate spaces for each room.
JEN: I'm not sure where to start, so I'm thinking we just bank left?
RICARDO: Let's bank.
JEN: Okay.
Oh, okay.
RICARDO: So, this is a great big room.
I think this could be a good living room.
JEN: Yeah.
I love the natural light and the view.
RICARDO: So classy.
JEN: But let's see what else we've got.
RICARDO: Okay, let's go.
JEN: We'll keep banking left.
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: Oh, this is a second living room, right?
RICARDO: It does feel like a second living room.
JEN: This one's right off the kitchen, so maybe... RICARDO: This could be like a den.
JEN: Yes.
RICARDO: I'm in love with this fireplace.
And check out that mantle.
JEN: I wanna decorate it so bad.
RICARDO: Yeah.
I love that you have this view to the backyard.
JEN: And I do love how close this is to the kitchen so why don't we make our way?
RICARDO: Yeah, okay.
JEN: All right.
This is bringing me back.
It's dated but in the best possible way.
RICARDO: Oh yeah.
JEN: So much storage in here, especially with the island.
And when I was younger, all I wanted was a window over my sink.
I love looking out.
And then you can see this custom tile.
RICARDO: It's fun, you've got this great pop of color.
JEN: But I have to comment on this railing.
RICARDO: I would probably update the cabinets if I lived here.
JEN: Yeah.
RICARDO: And maybe I would take that out.
I don't know, do you love it?
JEN: No, I would 100% take it out.
And then I think my eye spies a dining room.
Ooh, this is nice and big.
RICARDO: You've got this chair rail, got the crown molding.
JEN: Oh.
RICARDO: It just feels like you wanna have a big dining room table here under this beautiful light fixture.
JEN: But I think it's gonna be a fight on where to sit in here.
RICARDO: Oh, I'm sitting on this side of the table.
JEN: 'Cause everyone's gonna wanna be looking out.
RICARDO: I wanna see this view, yeah.
JEN: What if we put a huge mirror here?
That would make it fair.
RICARDO: We could all enjoy the view.
JEN: Why don't we see how the views look from the second level?
RICARDO: Right behind ya.
JEN: All right.
RICARDO: Wow.
JEN: This is a nice size room.
RICARDO: Yeah.
I love this color.
When I was younger, I painted my room like a lighter blue, so I'm kinda here for anything blue.
JEN: Yeah.
Let's check out this bathroom.
RICARDO: Oh yeah.
JEN: Oh, now this bathroom is my favorite color.
RICARDO: And this is a very big bathroom.
JEN: Yeah.
This vanity, a little dated, but it's not bothering me.
Especially with kind of the more modern flooring.
RICARDO: The plank's a little thinner than the floors downstairs.
But it's a great mix of light and dark.
JEN: Very nice.
I'm thinking maybe these rooms are kinda similar.
Why don't we split up?
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: All right.
RICARDO: Sounds good.
JEN: So, what do you see in there?
RICARDO: Oh, it's more of these beautiful floors.
I might change the color of the walls.
But really big closets and beautiful views of this backyard.
JEN: I also have a pretty big room, that I really like.
Also huge double closet, but I have two windows with the amazing front view.
So, I think I'm the winner.
RICARDO: It's no competition yet.
JEN: Why don't we go and check out that primary?
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: 'Kay.
Whoa, this is big.
RICARDO: Good gracious, this is big.
Plenty of space in here for a California King, easy.
JEN: Yeah, maybe two.
RICARDO: I'm curious to know what's going on in here.
JEN: Whoa.
This goes all the way around.
RICARDO: What?
JEN: There's room in here for dressers.
And with some natural light.
And then leading to this amazing en suite.
RICARDO: Got the jacuzzi tub.
JEN: I think the Fleur-de-Lis tile is very special, and then also the double glass sliding door shower.
RICARDO: Mm-hmm.
JEN: That's what I had growing up.
RICARDO: All right, time to find Jon.
JEN: Yeah.
RICARDO: It's time to play game number two, maybe get you some redemption.
JEN: I hope so.
And I'm really hoping maybe we can play the game on the patio.
RICARDO: I'm gonna follow you.
JEN: Okay.
I'm so glad we got to meet you back out here on this patio.
It's amazing.
The stone levels, it's all fenced in... JON: All the space for entertaining, inside and out.
RICARDO: Yeah.
JEN: If you buy this house, you have to have the Super Bowl party.
That's just the deal.
JON: Absolutely.
JEN: You know what I mean?
RICARDO: And can we talk about the primary and that walk-in closet?
JEN: Gigantic.
JON: Beautiful, right?
RICARDO: That could be a bedroom.
JON: Right.
JEN: Yeah.
JON: It's huge.
JEN: And the flow of that kitchen, perfect.
JON: Right.
So this house has four bedrooms, two and a half baths, over 3600 square feet including the basement, and was built in 2001.
JEN: I'm gonna guess 944,000.
RICARDO: Well, I'm gonna say 898,000.
JEN: Okay.
JON: All right.
The actual list price is... $689,000.
RICARDO: What?
JEN: With all this land?
JON: With all this land.
RICARDO: All this space?
JON: Absolutely.
You get a lot more bang for your buck in Frederick.
JEN: I'm shocked by that.
JON: So, we're gonna up the ante with this next home.
We're gonna go back in time.
It was built in 1900.
Are you guys ready to see this dream home?
RICARDO: Absolutely.
JON: All right, let's go.
JEN: All right.
RICARDO: Oh my gosh.
JEN: I cannot believe we both bust.
TERRY: This area around Frederick saw quite a bit of action during the Civil War.
There were three major battles fought relatively close, the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Gettysburg, and the Battle of Monocacy, right on our doorstep.
The Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest day in American history.
There were over 23,000 casualties.
The majority of the wounded from Antietam passed through Frederick, so the population of the town almost doubled.
And almost all of the public buildings in town were taken over for hospitals.
The National Museum of Civil War Medicine takes you through the whole medical experience of the Civil War.
We have dioramas of camp life, ambulances, the field hospital, field dressing station, and a pavilion hospital set up so that you get the real feeling of what the experience actually was.
We have the only known surviving surgeon's tent from the Civil War.
It's a canvas wall tent, belonged to Surgeon John Wiley.
And he used this as his living quarters, and in the morning, anybody who felt sick would come and report to him for surgeon's call.
And then he would give them medicine if needed.
So, pharmaceuticals were very important in the Civil War.
Not only were they used for pain relief, they were used for anesthetics.
But in the South, they were getting scarcer and scarcer, so they started to look at plants that grew naturally in their environment and to find substitutes.
GREG: 200 years ago, medicinal plants were the modern drug therapy that doctors used to treat a variety of ailments, whether they were Civil War soldiers or families.
Here at the University of Maryland Extension Office in Frederick, Maryland, this is my medicinal garden bed with about a half a dozen plants that historically have had medicinal value.
Probably the most interesting plant we have here is a plant called lamb's ear, and that was called nature's band-aid.
This has a chemical in it that, actually, if you were to cut your finger, you could wrap the lamb's ear around your finger and it would actually stop the bleeding.
The other plant we have here is lemon balm.
This plant is great because if you take a leaf and you kinda roll it between your fingers and you smell or sniff it, uh, it smells just like lemons.
And this would've been used as a calming tea at the time.
The other plant we have here is a plant called sedum.
It's a big thick green leaf plant used for its immune-boosting properties.
Modern-day medicine started 200 years ago.
And the plants we'd been using really formed the basis for a lot of the drugs we use today.
(doorbell) JEN: So beautiful.
RICARDO: Ah.
JON: Welcome to house number three, the dream home.
This house was originally built in 1901.
JEN: Just driving it up, it was jaw-dropping just to see this original farmhouse.
Definitely stepping back in time.
RICARDO: And as we were driving up, we saw this little house at the end of the driveway.
JON: Ah, so that would be the original springhouse, and it's where the family would draw their water from in 1901.
RICARDO: Oh.
JON: It also developed into a tollhouse, and the tollbooth keeper would've been on the top level so they could see anyone that's coming from a distance.
JEN: Did you pay a toll when you came in this morning?
RICARDO: Not today.
JEN: Oh no.
JON: I'll collect it on the way out.
JEN: Oh, okay.
RICARDO: So, what other original features can we expect to see inside?
JON: The original staircase, and also the vent that's in the original hardwood floors, that's how the family would've heated the home back in 1901.
RICARDO: It sounds like there is so much to see inside.
We'll take our tour, and then we'll meet you for the final game of the day.
JON: I got a great place for use to do the big reveal.
It's gonna be the outdoor kitchen in the back of the house.
JEN: What?
RICARDO: All right, sounds great.
JEN: Oh my God, more than one kitchen?
Yay.
RICARDO: Oh, she's in heaven.
JEN: All right, we'll see you afterward.
JON: All right, we'll see you after.
JEN: Wow, look at this door.
RICARDO: I know.
JEN: Ah.
Whoa.
RICARDO: The staircase is so impressive.
Can you believe this is more than 100 years old?
The decorative handcrafted molding all around here is exquisite.
JEN: Really beautiful.
And then if you look down the hall, there's the vent.
RICARDO: Yeah.
JEN: I did not expect it to be round.
And very ornate, how exciting.
RICARDO: Yeah.
JEN: I think we follow the hardwood.
Living room, dining room combo.
RICARDO: Yeah.
See this archway?
Isn't that gorgeous?
JEN: And built-in storage.
RICARDO: Yeah.
JEN: Maybe there was a door between these two rooms.
RICARDO: Oh, to separate these two spaces?
JEN: Yeah.
And, you know, speaking of doors, we have the double doors here.
RICARDO: Mm-hmm.
JEN: I mean, I can imagine having to shut off parts of this house to keep it warm, you know?
RICARDO: Oh, yeah.
JEN: We do have a fireplace in this room.
RICARDO: Yeah, that is a gorgeous fireplace, too.
JEN: Why don't we just pop across the hall?
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: Okay.
Oh, okay RICARDO: Okay, now we're shifting into carpet, nice and cozy.
JEN: I think this would've been, like, your more traditional parlor.
RICARDO: Mm-hmm.
JEN: So, when folks came to tea this is probably where you would greet them.
RICARDO: Mm-hmm, yes.
And of course, you've got another fireplace in here which is so gorgeous.
JEN: Yeah.
Uh, this feels very cozy.
RICARDO: You can see into the next room, which looks a little bit more modern.
JEN: Oh, wow.
This is my dream library.
RICARDO: Is it?
JEN: Oh my gosh, look it...
There's so many places to sit and read.
RICARDO: And all of the windows in here.
JEN: I know.
I mean, this is kind of the ultimate work-from-home space.
RICARDO: Oh yeah, it's definitely the brightest room that we've seen so far.
JEN: Yeah.
Well, I'm not sure what's next, so let's just keep it moving.
RICARDO: All right.
JEN: Just more access to beautiful outdoor space.
And look at this breakfast nook.
And all of these windows.
RICARDO: Oh.
JEN: This is farmhouse special.
RICARDO: Country kitchen, yes.
JEN: Yes.
RICARDO: And I've never seen an island shaped like this before.
What do you think about having the range there in the center?
JEN: It's a little close to the fridge for me.
Which could be a pro or a con.
Being able to just grab something from the fridge to throw in a pot would be great.
However, I think if you were to move this stove you would lose this really unique coffee nook.
RICARDO: Yes, I love a coffee moment, and the fact that it's, like, dedicated to all of your coffee accoutrement.
JEN: Yeah, I really like the shelving.
RICARDO: So, I see an amazing stone wall back here.
JEN: Oh.
RICARDO: We've got to look at this.
JEN: Yes, please.
Look at these vaulted ceilings.
Even though this is one of the darker rooms it still feels very bright, very inviting.
RICARDO: Mm-hmm, this is giving me log-cabin-in-the-woods cozy.
JEN: Yeah, and then this whole wall of windows with the banquette seating underneath, it's just so classic.
RICARDO: Yeah, absolutely.
JEN: And I wanna sit next to this fireplace and watch the snow fall.
RICARDO: I love the stonework around the fireplace.
JEN: Well, I think it's time for us to head to the second level.
RICARDO: Oh yeah.
JEN: Yeah.
RICARDO: This floor is so beautiful.
JEN: Oh, wow, look at all the windows in this room.
RICARDO: Wow, this is a huge room.
JEN: And then these built-in shelves and cupboards, I like how they kind of take me back.
RICARDO: See what's across the hall.
JEN: Yeah.
All right.
RICARDO: Oh.
JEN: Okay, so this is very much a contrasting room.
RICARDO: I love the dark wood the dark baseboards.
JEN: Oh, yeah.
RICARDO: Um, it's got two closets in here.
JEN: Can't beat that.
RICARDO: Mm-hmm.
JEN: Let's see what else is up here.
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: Ooh.
RICARDO: Oh.
JEN: So, we've got a nice full bath up here.
RICARDO: Yeah.
It could probably use some updates, but I really love this horse feature here.
JEN: A very, uh, vintage equestrian towel rack.
And then having the antique vanity in here is really trying to keep us in the time.
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: Oh, this is massive.
RICARDO: Oh, so primary perfection.
JEN: And there's so many different ways to set up this room.
100% Cali King.
Yeah.
RICARDO: Yes.
JEN: But also, a sitting area, a makeup area.
This is in this time period.
RICARDO: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
JEN: Um, I think that we have got to go see this bathroom, though.
RICARDO: Oh, let's go.
JEN: Hmm.
RICARDO: Okay.
Got a little vanity moment here.
I love that they've got all this storage space.
JEN: I could see taking all of this out.
RICARDO: Yeah, and opening it all up and making like a big bathroom suite... JEN: Yeah, yeah.
RICARDO: That might be fun.
JEN: Oh, why don't we peek in here?
RICARDO: Okay.
JEN: There's something about this space that feels charming to me.
RICARDO: Yeah, you know what it's missing, though?
Hangers shaped like horses.
JEN: Yeah, there's definitely a lack of horseheads in this bathroom.
RICARDO: Well, I think we've finally seen everything that we need to see in the house.
And it's time to go find Jon.
JEN: Well, we haven't seen everything 'cause we're gonna meet him for the game in the outdoor kitchen.
RICARDO: Oh yeah.
JEN: Let's go.
RICARDO: Let's go.
It is amazing.
JEN: Hey.
RICARDO: Hey, Jon.
JEN: Hi.
JON: Well, welcome to the outdoor kitchen.
RICARDO: This is really impressive.
I mean, you have this amazing brick oven back here.
JEN: If you really wanna eat outside, this is the way to go.
JON: Absolutely.
So, what'd you think about the rest of the house?
RICARDO: So many beautiful historical features.
I loved that entryway with that staircase.
Absolutely stellar.
JEN: And then there are some more modern rooms, like the sunroom, that I would love to turn into a library.
It really was kind of a showstopper.
JON: High ceilings, lots of light.
Can't ask for much more, can you?
JEN: Yeah, and the cherry on top of everything is all of this beautiful outdoor space.
JON: It's just under two acres, so plenty of space for you.
We're looking at four bedrooms, two and a half baths, over 4,800 square feet, and this house was built in 1901.
RICARDO: I am going to say 998,000.
JEN: I'm gonna guess 989,000.
JON: Okay.
The actual list price is $1.1... RICARDO: Oh.
JON: ...98,000.
RICARDO: Oh my gosh.
JON: You have a winner.
JEN: I was surprised by house number two's price, so I was trying to also be a little conservative.
RICARDO: What a great value, though.
JEN: Yeah.
JON: Absolutely.
I know you guys were trying to win the game, but after hearing the list price, it sort of makes sense, right?
RICARDO: Yeah.
JEN: Oh, absolutely, given the square footage, the age, and the acreage.
RICARDO: And you've shown us that, Frederick, you can get a lot of bang for your buck.
Thank you so much for showing us around Frederick today.
We had an amazing time.
JON: Well, I wanna show you one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Frederick.
It's on Market Street, it's called the Ordinary Hen.
JEN: Oh.
JON: Wanna go check it out?
RICARDO: Are you kidding?
JEN: That sounds fun, yeah.
RICARDO: Yeah, let's go.
JEN: All right.
JON: All right, let's go.
ASHLEIGH: If you lived here, I would definitely recommend, um, heading down to our downtown, spending some time at our events, and Baker Park.
BOYCE: My go-to place, uh, is Brewer's Alley, where you can get a great pizza.
MIKAYLA: If you lived here, you'd know about La Paz on Tuesday nights.
JIM: If you lived here, you would definitely wanna check out the Carroll Creek Linear Park.
It has a lot of beautiful artwork.
ROBERT: It's a great community with the people and, uh, you know, it's just a good place to live.
