And it's only like a, what, three hour drive?
LAURITA: I think about three hours.
LAUREN: That's not bad.
LAURITA: Maybe even a little less than three hours.
LAUREN: I want to listen to some music.
LAURITA: Well, you know I'm driving so it's my music, so.
LAUREN: I know.
Driver always picks, but.
LAURITA: So an adventure awaits us.

LAUREN: I know.
LAURITA: Are you excited?

SCOTT: Best place to drink coffee in the morning.
You get up a little bit early, no one's around.
You just sit out there, enjoy your coffee, look at the steam come off the lake.
LAUREN: Ooh.
SCOTT: It's wonderful.
You might see a groundhog swimming by.
LAUREN: Ooh.
LAURITA: Woo!
LAUREN: We will definitely have to do that tomorrow morning then.
LAURITA: First thing.

LAUREN: Yeah.
SCOTT: Well, guys, let me show you around the inside.

SCOTT: This is the great room, and we have this big fireplace.
We have all these nice comfy chairs.
This is where people hang out and relax in the winter or on an inclement day.
LAURITA: I love it.
It looks so cozy.
LAUREN: It does.
LENINA: A lot of times we have a huge bonfire in there, and people sit in here and do puzzles and.
LAUREN: You love puzzles.
LENINA: Yeah.
LAURITA: I do love puzzles!
LENINA: Yeah, Lots of friendships are forged in this room.
LAUREN: Yeah.
LAURITA: I believe it.
SCOTT: So guys, if we good, go to your left here.
Let me take you on a little more of the tour here.
LENINA: Scott and I looked at bed and breakfasts all over the country, and when we came to Deep Creek, the Lake Pointe Inn was something very special and kind of magical.
And the energy in Deep Creek is really relaxing.
This is where you come to unwind.
We have canoes and kayaks and even paddleboards.
We have all kinds of spaces where you can just sit by yourself, and it's wonderful to be able to do that.
GEORGE: So we're located on the shores of Deep Creek Lake, but if you want to drop some mail here, that will be called McHenry, Maryland.
Named after James McHenry, one of two Maryland signers of the US Constitution.
McHenry came here and bought land to establish a farming estate.
Fast-forward to 1994, Linda and I, my wife, got in our canoe, paddled up and said, "This place should be a small inn."
So we renovated the old house into the Lake Pointe Inn, and we owned it for 20 years.
Scott and Lenina came to the Lake Pointe Inn as guests.
They were smitten with the Lake Pointe Inn, and we sold the inn.
The rest is history.
It has continued to thrive, attract oodles of repeat guests as it always did, and continue as a destination at Deep Creek Lake like no other.
LENINA: I wanted to tell you about our welcome board.
LAURITA: Oh, how nice.
LAUREN: Nice.
LENINA: So this tells you which room you're in, and we have visitors here that have been here 61... LAURITA: 61, wow.
LENINA: I know.
60, isn't that crazy?
LAURITA: This is going to be a good time.

We've been seeing elephants every single place that we've gone, and we love them.

JEANY: Firewater Kitchen & Bar is Deep Creek Lake's only craft cocktail bar and restaurant.
Craft cocktails and craft cocktail making is actually a skill.
A traditional bartender, you know, can make a screwdriver and regular Manhattan, an old fashioned, but here, they craft the actual syrups that go in.
The juices are made fresh daily.
There's nothing that comes from a bottle.
Everything they do, they do from scratch, from local produce, from local farmers, so we can serve the best and freshest products to our guests.
LAURITA: Tomorrow's going to be a good day.
LEXI: All righty.

JEANY: Here at Firewater, a lot of people like to do sharable things, and, you know, you'll get a group of two or four people.
They'll grab a whole bunch of appetizers or shareables.
LEXI: I have your fried green tomatoes that have a lump crab meat, gorgonzola, and our spicy remoulade sauce.
LAUREN: Yum.
LEXI: And then our lamb chop lollipops that have our rosemary mint chimichurri.
LAUREN: Thank you!
LEXI: And here's little plates for you all.
LAURITA: Thank you.

LAURITA: This is totally our love language here.

JEANY: For Laurita and Lauren, we chose the lamb chop lollipops and the fried green tomatoes.
Those are the most popular items as far as appetizers.
LAUREN: Oh my God, this is so good.
JEANY: For the entrees, the two that we chose, the sea scallops and the steak and smashed potatoes are also two of our most popular.
People love them.
The demi glaze on the steak is just fantastic, keeps those fresh juices in there.
So it makes it nice and tender and perfect.
LEXI: Alrighty, ladies.
We have the pan seared scallops with our smoked cheddar and bacon grits, mushrooms, and snow peas.
And we have our steak with our smashed potatoes, also with the mushrooms and snow peas and our demi glaze.
JEANY: Deep Creek needed something like this, a place for people to come and, you know, relax after a day of boating.
Go out for a nice meal and try something new and different than anything else available right here in the lake area.

Every time I come here, we will be coming here.

JEANY: So I've lived here my whole life.
I can remember when Deep Creek was all small little cabins.
They were just places for the summer.
And as through the years, they've progressed to these large homes that, you know, are rental properties or people's second homes.
A lot of people come from northern Virginia, Washington DC, Pittsburgh.
It's been wonderful to grow up and live in Deep Creek my whole life.
They always used to say you live where you love to play, and there's always something new every day.
(birds chirping) ♪ ♪ SCOTT: Ladies, welcome.
LAURITA: Hey, how are you?
SCOTT: We're going to have fun out on the lake today.
LAUREN: Let's do it.
SCOTT: Okay.

LAUREN: Paddleboarding.
LAURITA: Going to be paddleboarding.
We're very excited.
LAUREN: Super excited.
LAURITA: Well, actually I'm kind of nervous, but... LAUREN: I'm excited.

WILLIAM: Deep Creek Lake is Maryland's largest freshwater lake, 1,800 acre state park that's along the Deep Creek Lake.
Home to a wide variety of wildlife.
Fish, there's bass, perch, walleye.
Hard to believe there's beavers out here.
It was originally constructed in 1925 by the Youghiogheny Hydro Electric Corporation, and it was for rural electrification.
One of the things I really love about this area is the weather, actually.
In the summers, it's always like ten to 15 degrees cooler than central Maryland, low humidity, hard to not like the fact that there's really little mosquitoes here.
Activities at Deep Creek Lake, we have hiking, biking, fishing, boating, and then we even have amenities such as canoe and kayaking.
We provide rentals down on our beach area.
LAURITA: You don't want to take a dive off right here.
WES: I already got your guys', uh, kayaks and paddleboards already set down here.
LAUREN: Woo-hoo.
LAURITA: Thank you.
LAUREN: We are about to go paddleboarding!
LAURITA: Yes, we are.
LAUREN: Well, she's going kayaking.
LAURITA: Well, I'm not afraid of paddleboarding, but it's really windy today, and I've never had a lesson.
LAUREN: I've gone paddleboarding before, so it should be fun.
(whistling) LAURITA: Take this off.

WES: When you get past the rock jetty, I want to ask that you only go left and then after that you're more than welcome to stand up if you'd like.
LAUREN: All right, let's go.

LAURITA: We've been paddling for a while now.

(laughter) LAURITA: It's been a beautiful day on this beautiful lake and, um, got a little wet there, but you get wet when you're on the lake.

LAUREN: I'm glad that the water in the lake was not too cold because I definitely fell in a few times, but, you know... LAURITA: She did.
LAUREN: I think... She only didn't fall in because it's not really possible to fall in from a kayak, until she did at the end when she capsized.
But... LAURITA: If you know how to paddle the kayak... LAUREN: But.

MEAGAN: Dutch's is a fine dining establishment in a very casual environment.
We've started out in 1984 in Frederick, Maryland.
Started at one location, moved to another, built a, a establishment from the ground up in 2000, and then we moved up here in 2011.
We're right on the lake here.
We've got a marina that's connected to us, and we have inside dining year round.
We've got this great outdoor area.
ESSENCE: My name is Essence.
I will be your server this afternoon, um.
Just to let you know a little bit about us here at Dutch's, we are famously known for all of our seafood and steak items.
MEAGAN: It's very seasonal up here.
Originally we said that it's like bears coming out of hibernation during the summertime because there's such an influx of lake crowd and everybody in the area.
But then we also have the ski season, which is very high demand as well.
ESSENCE: Alrighty, so... LAURITA: Delicious.
ESSENCE: Here we have the hot and spicy shrimp.
LAURITA: Yes.
LAUREN: It looks delish.
ESSENCE: And we also do have our crab dip.
Our wonderful crab.
LAURITA: Oh my gosh.
LAUREN: Oh my goodness.
ESSENCE: Yes.
LAUREN: Get into it.
ESSENCE: It all has that jumbo lump crab meat in there for you.
LAURITA: Woo.
LAUREN: Yes.

LAURITA: The right amount of spice.
LAUREN: And you can see this has like big lumps of crab in it.
MEAGAN: One popular item is our crab dip.
But then we also have this hot and spicy shrimp.
It's kind of like peel and eat shrimp.
And then our number one seller is definitely our crab cakes, fresh jumbo lump crab meat.
We've had the same recipe for years and years and years, and it's very popular, especially from the Baltimore and DC area.
People still say that it, they're some of the best crab cakes they've had.
So we're very proud of that and the consistency that we have.
ESSENCE: All right.
So I'm going to start you off.
We do have a Filet Oscar here.
LAURITA: Ooh.
LAUREN: Ooh.
ESSENCE: That is going to be your fresh cut steak in-house every morning.
It does have asparagus as well as a hollandaise sauce with some crab imperial on top.
LAUREN: Bless you.

ESSENCE: And then we do have our jumbo lump crab cakes here.
LAUREN: Yeah, put that in front of me!
ESSENCE: Absolutely.
There's no filler in them at all.

So Wisp Resort has been around almost 75 years, and it's a great place for people to come visit for a getaway, really a place for everybody.
It feels secluded, but it also there's a lot nearby.
It's about 13 miles from the interstate, so it's really easy to get to from DC area or Pittsburgh.
So the lodge, it's currently being renovated right now.
We're always making improvements.
We also have a pool, fitness center, and we're also pet friendly in some of the rooms, so our guests can enjoy that.
LAUREN: Oh, this is cute.
LAURITA: Ah.
LAUREN: Let's see what else is in here.
LAURITA: It's a little sitting room.
If we wanted to sit and chit-chat.
LAUREN: Yeah.
Let's see what our view's looking like.
Ooh, it's a cute mountain view.
I'm sure when it snows, it looks beautiful.
LAURITA: Yep.
CHRISTEN: In the winter, it's like a winter wonderland here.
You can snow tube, you can ski, you can snowboard.
So here at Wisp, we have 33 slopes, so really all levels can ski and snowboard here.
And then in the summer, it kind of turns into a summer adventure headquarters here.
You can go golfing.
We have a whitewater rafting course.
It's actually the world's only mountaintop whitewater rafting course, and it's really great for beginners.
So you're not on an actual river.
On every Wednesday night in July and August, we have a concert series.
So we have food.
We have a farmer's market too.
So lots of vendors there.
And it's just really a fun event for everybody to come together and kids love it.
They play games out there.
So it's a lot of fun.
♪ ♪ (gusting winds) LAUREN: We are about to go down the mountain coaster at Wisp Resort.
I'm excited, are you?
LAURITA: So yeah, because we are like big rollercoaster people.
Huge, huge.
LAUREN: We are.
LAURITA: Bigger the drop, the more we'll scream.
CHRISTEN: So we've had the mountain coaster here since 2007.
It's so much fun.
Everybody comes off of it with a smile on their face.
It's great because you can do it year round, so it's really awesome to see it when it's snowing, when the leaves are changing.
I don't even think I can count how many times I've rode the mountain coaster.
TRISH: So the mountain coaster is about a five-minute ride.
It's 1,300 feet of uphill track, 3,500 feet of downhill track, and 350 vertical feet, uh, on the eastern side of the mountain here at Wisp Resort.
On the way up to the top, there's a cable that pulls the car all the way up.
On the way down, it's all gravity fed, so you can go as fast as you want.
The car will not come off the track.
You just make sure, of course, safety is top priority, and you don't hit the car in front of you.
ISSAC: Hello.
LAUREN: Hi.
LAURITA: Hello.
ISSAC: How you guys doing?
LAUREN: Good, how are you?
ISSAC: Good.
Have you guys done this before?
LAUREN: We have not.
ISSAC: Awesome.
LAUREN: But we've heard so many good things about it.
ISSAC: So how to operate the car is by these two black levers.
LAUREN: Okay.
ISSAC: With both hands, you want to push them all the way forward to go.
LAUREN: Okay.
LAURITA: Okay.
ISSAC: Back is to slow down.
LAUREN: Got it.
LAURITA: Okay.
ISSAC: This is a thrill ride, so we do encourage you to go as fast as possible as often as possible.
LAUREN: Oh, don't have to tell us twice.
LAURITA: We are ready.
LAUREN: Yeah!

LAURITA: I'm not slowing.

This is a steep little hill.
Sheesh.
So right now we are on the mountain coaster.
I'm heading up, um.
This is honestly my least favorite part of the rollercoaster, going up, the anticipation, all of that.
But also this is a very steep hill.
Like just watching this is kind of scary, but it's going to be fun regardless.
My mom is in front, and I'm hoping she doesn't brake at all because I'm trying to go down super fast.
LAURITA: This is the peaceful part of this ride.
I'm going to just relax for a while.
LAUREN: Oh, there's a loop de loop.
Oh, I'm excited!
LAURITA: How you doing back there?
(laughs) Woo!
Hey, Lauren.
LAUREN: Yeah.
LAURITA: Woo!
(laughter) LAUREN: Ooh, here we go.
Woo!
(screaming) Oh my God.

LAURITA: Woo-hoo!

(laughs) That was so much fun.
We just went on that rollercoaster, and let me tell you, if you don't have to brake, it's a good feeling.
LAUREN: Yeah.
No, that was fast.
That was a lot faster than I expected, but it was really fun.
LAURITA: It was a lot of fun.
LAUREN: Um, the, the going up part was my least favorite though because it was so steep.
It literally looked like you were going straight up the hill.
But it was so fun.
The mountain coaster, ten out of ten, would recommend.
LAURITA: Let's go again.
LAUREN: Let's do it again.

LAURITA: You know, the cool thing about being here in Deep Creek, the family came before, but it was so many years ago and it looked nothing like it looked now.

I love the thrill.
I feel like more than you do now.
So don't try to do that.
